citostatik
Citostatici su sredstva koja zaustavljaju razvoj i razmnožavanje stanica. Prvenstveno inhibiraju tumorske stanice i druga tkiva brzog rasta (koštana srž, spolne žlijezde, kosa, embrijsko tkivo), dok na ostale stanice ne djeluju u znatnijoj mjeri. Primjenjuju se u liječenju zloćudnih tumora te kao imunosupresivno sredstvo (sprječavaju odbacivanje transplantata). Teško se podnose, izazivaju mučninu, povraćanje, proljev, smetnje funkcije koštane srži s poremećajem krvne slike, ispadanje kose, smanjuju otpornost prema infekcijama, djeluju teratogeno, zbog čega se rabi kombinacija od više citostatika različitog mehanizma djelovanja (alkilirajuća sredstva, antimetaboliti, antimitotici, radioizotopi).
