Distorsión armónica total (THD)
Es una medida de la distorsión causada por los balastos y otras cargas inductivas de la corriente de entrada en sistemas de corriente alterna (AC) de energía causados por el aumento de los armónicos de orden de la frecuencia fundamental (60 Hz en Norteamérica). THD se expresa en porcentaje y puede referirse a las cargas individuales eléctricos (tales como lastre) o un circuito eléctrica total o el sistema en un edificio. ANSI C82.77 recomienda THD no supere el 32% de los balastos electrónicos comerciales individuales, aunque algunas compañías eléctricas pueden requerir DTR inferiores en algunos sistemas. DTR excesivos en los sistemas eléctricos pueden causar pérdidas de eficiencia, así como el sobrecalentamiento y el deterioro de los componentes del sistema.
