Oswaldo Vigas

He was born on August 4th, 1926 (Valencia, Venezuela)

In 1941 he moved to Guacara, locality in which he made his first paintings. His earliest known work is important illustration of the Book of Poetry (1941) at the Ateneo de Valencia. In 1943 he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his work Red Leaves.

In 1953 he went to Paris and took a course in art history at the Sorbonne. Carlos Raul Villanueva was commissioned several mosaic murals for the University City of Caracas, the artist made in Paris. In 1957 he returned to Venezuela and exhibited at the Mendoza room its series objects.

In 1972 he made a series of serigraphs in the United States in 1983 gouaches and graphics related to Simon Bolivar. In 1985 he presented his first works as a sculptor in bronze. In 1990 MACCSI (Museum of Contemporary Art Sofia Imber) organized a retrospective about his work.

It is considered one of the most important contemporary artists from Venezuela.

He died on April 22th, 2014
