SANY

SANY (full name: SANY Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.) is a multinational heavy machinery manufacturing conglomerate headquartered in Changsha, China. Founded in 1986 as Lianyuan Welding Material Ltd, the company changed its Chinese name to Sanyi in 1991 to better reflect its corporate principle of "three number ones", i.e. to build a first-class enterprise, to foster first-class employees, and to make first-class contributions to society. The English name SANY is derived from Sanyi by dropping the last letter.

SANY is the first in its industry in China to enter the FT Global 500 and the Forbes Global 2000 rankings. The company set a Guinness record for the longest boom of a truck-mounted concrete pump. It also manufactures a rotary drilling machine with the largest tonnage in the world, as well the largest truck crane in China.

SANY's market share grew rapidly during its first twenty years in business as its construction equipment were in high demand as the Chinese economy expanded over 10% a year during the same period. The company began going global in the mid 2000's by investing in overseas manufacturing facilities. In January 2012, SANY acquired a 90 per cent stake in Putzmeister, a Germany-based manufacturer of concrete pumps. In February 2012, SANY and the Austria-based Palfinger announced a market venture to make and sell mobile cranes and the construction of a sales unit.

During the 2010 Copiapó mining accident, a SANY manufactured crane was used to rescue the Chilean miners. SANY also donated a pump to the Tokyo Electric Power Company to assist with the emergency response to the Fukushima I nuclear accidents after the 2011 Japanese earthquake.

In October 2012, SANY sued Barack Obama after the U.S. President blocked the construction of four wind farms in the U.S. state of Oregon by its affiliate Ralls on the ground of national security.
