Company Profile:
The Unicode Consortium or Unicode Inc. is a not-for-profit organization that coordinates the development of the Unicode standard. Its stated goal is to eventually enable computers to operate in all languages from around the world. The consortium develops and publishes a list of freely-available ...
A character that is either an LV_Syllable or an LVT_Syllable.
Industry:Computer; Software
A ligature or variant glyph that has been encoded as a character for compatibility.
Industry:Computer; Software
A Canonical Decomposable Character (D69) which is not a Full Composition Exclusion. * For any given version of the Unicode Standard, the list of primary composites can be computed by extracting all canonical decomposable characters from UnicodeData.txt in the Unicode Character Database, adding the list of precomposed Hangul syllables (D132), and subtracting the list of Full Decomposition Exclusions.
Industry:Computer; Software
Refers to designated code points in the Unicode Standard or other character encoding standards whose interpretations are not specified in those standards and whose use may be determined by private agreement among cooperating users.
Industry:Computer; Software
Any one of the three blocks of private-use code points in the Unicode Standard.
Industry:Computer; Software
Code points in the ranges U+E000..U+F8FF, U+F0000..U+FFFFD, and U+100000..U+10FFFD. These code points are designated in the Unicode Standard for private use. * Private-use code points are considered to be assigned characters, but the abstract characters associated with them have no interpretation specified by this standard. They can be given any interpretation by conformant processes. * Private-use code points are be given default property values, but these default values are overridable by higher-level protocols that give those private-use code points a specific interpretation.
Industry:Computer; Software
Said of a feature or rule that can be employed in novel combinations or circumstances, rather than being restricted to a fixed list. In the Unicode Standard, combining marks—particularly the accents—are productive. In contrast, variation selectors are deliberately not productive. Also known as generative.
Industry:Computer; Software
A named attribute of an entity in the Unicode Standard, associated with a defined set of values.
Industry:Computer; Software
A unique identifier for a particular Unicode character property. * The identifiers used for property aliases contain only ASCII alphanumeric characters or the underscore character. * Short and long forms for each property alias are defined. The short forms are typically just two or three characters long to facilitate their use as attributes for tags in markup languages. For example, “General_Category” is the long form and “gc” is the short form of the property alias for the General Category property. The long form serves as the formal name for the character property. * Property aliases are defined in the file PropertyAliases.txt lists all of the non- Unihan properties that are part of each version of the standard. The Unihan properties are listed in Unicode Standard Annex #38, “Unicode Han Database (Unihan).” * Property aliases of normative properties are themselves normative.
Industry:Computer; Software
One of the set of values associated with an encoded character property. * For example, the East_Asian_Width (EAW) property has the possible values “Narrow”, “Neutral”, “Wide”, “Ambiguous”, and “Unassigned”.
