The circuit in a magneto ignition system in which the primary current flows. Primary current is produced when lines of flux from the rotating magnet cut across the turns of wire in the primary winding of the magneto coil. At the instant the primary current is greatest, a set of breaker points opens the circuit and the flow stops immediately. The magnetic field caused by the primary current collapses, cuts across the many turns of wire in the secondary winding of the coil, which is wound around the primary winding, and induces a high voltage in it. The primary circuit includes the primary winding of the coil, the breaker points, a condenser, and an ignition switch. The breaker points, condenser, and switch are in parallel with each other and in series with the coil.
Industry:Aviation
The circuit in a radio transmitter that modulates the carrier, or places information (data) on the signal being transmitted.
Industry:Aviation
The circuit through which the input signal or input information is introduced into a piece of electronic equipment. The input circuit of an amplifier, for example, must supply whatever power is needed by a microphone, and it must have an input impedance that matches the impedance of the microphone.
Industry:Aviation
The classification of drawings that includes detail drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings.
Industry:Aviation
The classification of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation usable for communications. The bands of radio-frequency radiation used for communications and their commonly used names are: Frequency Range Band Name : 3 – 30 kHz--------------------------- Very Low Frequency (VLF) : 30 – 300 kHz------------------------ Low Frequency (LF) : 300 – 3,000 kHz--------------------Medium Frequency (MF) : 3 – 30 MHz ------------------------- High Frequency (HF) : 30 – 300 MHz ---------------------- Very High Frequency (VHF) : 300 – 3,000 MHz------------------- Ultrahigh Frequency (UHF) : 3 – 30 GHz --------------------------Superhigh Frequency (SHF) : 30 – 300 GHz -----------------------Extremely High Frequency (EHF)
Industry:Aviation
The clearance between the end of the valve stem and the rocker arm when the valve is seated and the cam follower is off the cam lobe.
Industry:Aviation
The clearance between the valve stem and the rocker arm of a radial engine when the engine is operating at its normal temperature. The hot, or running, clearance is much greater than the cold clearance, and it is measured only when adjusting the valve timing. After the timing is properly adjusted, using the hot clearance, all of the valves are set to the much smaller cold clearance.
Industry:Aviation
The code word used to designate an emergency phase wherein there is reasonable certainty that an aircraft and its occupants are threatened by grave and imminent danger or require immediate assistance.
Industry:Aviation
The cohesive force that causes molecules of a liquid to hold themselves together. Surface tension tries to keep the area of the surface of the liquid as small as possible. It is surface tension that causes a soap bubble to be shaped like a sphere, since a sphere has the smallest surface area possible for its volume.
Industry:Aviation
The command unit of an automatic pilot. The human pilot is able to control the flight of the aircraft when the automatic pilot is engaged by using the controls on the flight controller.
