Company Profile:
Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) develops and markets aviation supplies, software, and books for pilots, flight instructors, flight engineers, airline professionals, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, aviation technicians and enthusiasts. Established in 1947, ASA also provides ...
The branch of science that deals with the composition, properties, and structure of matter. Chemistry is primarily concerned with the materials of which matter is made, and with the energy absorbed or released during changes in the characteristics of these materials.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science that deals with the flight of lighter-than-air vehicles, such as balloons, dirigibles, or blimps. These vehicles are filled with hot air or with a gas lighter than the air surrounding it. This gas enables the balloon to rise in the air by displacing more than its own weight of air. Aerostatic lift, which is produced by displacing a mass of air, is different from aerodynamic lift in that it does not require relative motion between the lifting body and the air.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science that deals with the forces produced by air flowing over specially shaped surfaces called airfoils. Wings and helicopter rotors produce a vertical aerodynamic force, and propellers produce a horizontal force. Aerodynamic forces inside a turbojet engine produce pressure and velocity changes in the air as it passes through the compressor and turbine.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science that deals with the physical properties of the atmosphere. Meteorology deals with the way weather conditions develop and change.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science that deals with the principles used in truth tables. Logic has become of major importance, with the introduction of digital electronics and especially digital computers. Electronic logic uses Boolean algebra, which allows a person to set up conditions using such operators as AND, OR, NOT, IF, ONLY IF, or THEN. By using these conditions and answering them with YES or NO that can be produced by a switch being open or closed, logic conclusions can be reached. Electronic logic circuits use gates which are combinations of switches with a single output, but with one or more inputs. For any given combination of logic conditions (yes or no, one or zero) on the inputs, there can be one and only one logic condition on the output. The most commonly used logic gates are the AND gate, the OR gate, and the NOT gate (an inverter).
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science which deals with the physical characteristics of the heavenly bodies. These characteristics include their mass, density, temperature, size, luminosity, and origin.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of science, business, or technology that deals with any part of the operation of machines that fly through the air.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of technology that deals with the design, production, installation, use, and servicing of electronic equipment mounted in aircraft.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of technology that deals with the transmission of light through long, slender, flexible fibers of glass or transparent plastic material. Transparent fibers arranged in a compact bundle have the ability to transmit an image from one end to the other, even if the bundle is bent around a corner. Fiber optic borescopes are used to inspect the inside of a structure without requiring any major disassembly. These instruments may be fitted with a light source to illuminate the inside of the device being inspected, and a camera to make a permanent record of what is seen through the eyepiece.
Industry:Aviation
The branch of technology that uses a flow of fluids through specially shaped ducts and nozzles to sense, measure, and control a physical condition. Fluidics does not involve the use of moving mechanical parts.
