Crank arms on a reciprocating engine crankshaft. The arms, or throws, to which the connecting rods and pistons are attached are offset from the center of the crankshaft to move the pistons in and out of the cylinder. The amount of the offset determines the stroke of the engine.

Cross-feed systems are used to allow a multiengine aircraft to maintain a balanced fuel load.
Industry:Aviation
Crude iron as it is reduced from iron ore in a blast furnace and molded in rough blocks called pigs. Pig iron has a high carbon content.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in an AC circuit that has more capacitive reactance than inductive reactance. Current must flow into a capacitive circuit before voltage can build up across it; therefore, in a capacitive circuit, the current leads the voltage.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in an AC circuit that has more inductive reactance than capacitive reactance. Voltage changes occur in an inductive circuit before current changes, and the current is said to lag the voltage.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in an alternating current circuit that is not in phase with the voltage.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in an electronic circuit when there is no input signal requiring the system to act. Idling current, also called quiescent current, is normally much less than the operating current of the system.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in an electronic circuit when there is no signal on the input.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in the emitter-base circuit of a transistor. The amount of bias current can be adjusted by the choice of components to set the operating conditions of the transistor.
Industry:Aviation
Current flowing in the primary winding of a transformer connected to a source of AC voltage when no current is flowing in the secondary winding. No-load current is also called excitation current, or idling current.
