An electrical circuit in which all the components are protected by encapsulating them in an insulating potting compound.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit in which alternating current is rectified, and its output is increased to a value four times its original peak value.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit in which alternating current is rectified, and its output is increased to a value of twice its original peak value.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit in which the conductors joining the components are made of conductive strips bonded onto the surface of an insulating board. A thin sheet of copper or other conducting material is bonded to a sheet of fiberglass-reinforced resin, and the desired pattern of conductors is drawn on the copper. All of the unwanted copper is chemically etched away, and only the desired conductors are left. The component leads are assembled through holes in the PC board and soldered to the copper conductors. PCs have almost completely replaced the older point-to-point wired circuits.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit in which there is a fault that causes electrons to flow across a portion of the circuit that should act as an insulator. The electrons find a short path to ground. Fuses and circuit breakers protect the circuit from damage that could be caused by excess current flowing through a short circuit.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit protection device that consists of a strip of low-melting-point metal that will melt and open the circuit when an excessive amount of current flows through it. In many modern aircraft electrical systems, fuses have been replaced with resettable circuit breakers.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit protection device that opens a control circuit when the current drops to a specified low value.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit that changes alternating current into direct current. A rectifier circuit uses one or more rectifier devices, such as semiconductor diodes, vacuum-tube diodes, or metal-oxide rectifiers. These devices act as electron check valves, allowing electrons to flow during one alternation of the AC, but opposing their flow during the next alternation.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit that contains both resistance and capacitance. RC time constant.
Industry:Aviation
An electrical circuit that contains both resistance and inductance.
