Company Profile:
Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) develops and markets aviation supplies, software, and books for pilots, flight instructors, flight engineers, airline professionals, air traffic controllers, flight attendants, aviation technicians and enthusiasts. Established in 1947, ASA also provides ...
A record book in which all the operating time, maintenance that has been performed, and the inspection status of an aircraft engine are recorded.

log
A record kept of activities, with entries made as they occur. In the field of aviation, a log is kept by pilots to record flight time. A log is kept on every airframe, engine, propeller, and rotor, to show the amount of time in service and to record all the maintenance that has been done on each device.
Industry:Aviation
A rectifier in an electronic circuit. The term detector is normally used for a rectifier that changes modulated radio-frequency alternating current into pulsating direct current whose amplitude varies in the same way as the modulation on the original AC.
Industry:Aviation
A rectifier that allows electrons to pass in one direction, but opposes their flow in the opposite direction. An oxide film is formed on a disk of copper, and a disk of lead is pressed tightly against the oxide. A barrier exists between the copper and the copper oxide that allows electrons to pass from the copper through the oxide to the lead; but they cannot pass from the lead through the oxide and the barrier to the copper.
Industry:Aviation
A red oxide that forms on ferrous metal (metal that contains iron). Rust has no strength, it is porous, and it continues to eat the metal until it is completely destroyed. Rust can be prevented by keeping all oxygen away from the metal, by painting it, or by coating it with a film of oil or grease.
Industry:Aviation
A reddish-brown, translucent material left in the process of distilling turpentine from the sap of pine trees. Rosin is used in the manufacture of paints, inks, adhesives, and as a flux for soldering.
Industry:Aviation
A reference for many of the aerodynamic measurements used in aircraft design and operation. When the CG of an airplane is given in % MAC, LEMAC is specified in inches from the datum to allow weight and balance computations to relate % MAC to the datum.
Industry:Aviation
A reference from which measurements are made. For example, mean sea level is a datum for measuring true altitude, and the freezing point of pure water is a datum for measuring temperature.
Industry:Aviation
A reference point in an electrical system from which all voltage measurements are made. In an aircraft electrical system, the negative terminal of the battery is normally connected to the aircraft structure, and this acts as the ground. In household and industrial electrical power systems, one lead connects to the earth, which serves as the ground. In the United Kingdom ground is spoken of as “earth.”
Industry:Aviation
A reflector used with a vertically polarized, quarter-wavelength radio antenna. Horizontal arms or a flat metal plane that sticks out at least a quarter wavelength from the base of the antenna reflects the signal.
